Hot New Networking Sites for Visual Artists
Looking for other visual artists that share your passions? Social networking is at the heart of the new Internet, and artists are welcome. Several networking sites let you sell your art, too. Here are some sites that invite you–free of charge–to post your work, exchange feedback, create a gallery, share technical tips, receive professional advice, and build your own network.
The Outer Post
Post and comment on art, music, fashion, and more. Active site with sections for your blog, groups, and a forum with topics including art, business and entrepreneurs, designers, do-gooders, fashion, film, international art, literature, jobs, movies, music, writing, travel, and politics. Has a prize center and chat room, too!
Art Break
Allows you to upload and sell artwork. Features include forums (announcements for shows, grants, competitions, call for entries, etc.), techniques (tools and resources), art business, and a grab bag. Art categories include paintings and drawings, prints, photography, mixed media, clothing, design, sculpture, furniture, ceramics and glass, wood and fiber, and jewelry.
Amateur Illustrator
Almost 4,000 members and nearly 15,000 works of art populate this community. There are active forums (in the studio, showcase, work in progress, advertise for illustrators, plug your site), galleries, articles, and editor’s choices. You can chat while drawing online.
My Art Info
International site allows you to display your own artwork in wide categories, including sculpture, decorative art, drawing, mixed media, prints, painting, photography, video (new media), and installations. There’s an active blog here, plus sections on artists’ profiles, art news, and education.
Artists Network
Forum with verticals in tech talk, topics in creativity, events and competitions, business, and artists’ lounge. Topics segmented by medium, including all media, acrylic, digital art, drawing, illustrations and cartoons, mixed media and collage, oil, pastel, water color and gouache, and colored pencil. Share work with other artists for feedback or receive professional requests to questions.
