Best Psychology Graduate Schools - Top Degree Programs

There are two sets of rankings for top graduate psychology programs in the U.S. One is for graduate degrees in psychology, and the other is for best clinical psychology program - and the two lists differ significantly. It is worth noting that six of the best psychology programs in the nation are at public universities, and that eight out of the ten top clinical psychology programs are at public schools. At Penn State you can obtain an online bachelors' degree in psychology, but you'll have to get your graduate degree(s) on campus.

Graduate psychology programs in general can lead to a developmental psychology career, to work in the industrial and organization psychology field, to cognitive psychology or to behavioral neuroscience. Many of these opportunities result in research careers, although developmental psychologists often work with children in a clinical setting. A masters' degree in psychology will also qualify you for criminal justice career, particularly in the probation, parole or counseling jobs.

Graduates who have a PhD in Clinical Psychology can obtain a license to open a practice develop a clinical psychology career working with patients. A masters' degree can lead to an addiction counseling job although some additional training may be required for licensure.
