How to Choose a Photography Degree Program
Choosing a photography degree depends on your interests. A good example of your options can be found at the Brooks Institute, a learning institution for photography, film and other visual arts. Their Bachelors' Degree in Professional Photography offers areas of specialization in Advertising, Photo Media Photography, Commercial Photography and Portraiture. Their Masters' of Fine Arts in Photography is an entirely different course track.
The available options for a photography professional call for some early decision making with regard to career orientation. Most quality photography programs are found in art schools or in design schools, where your focus could be fashion or could be industrial design. Some large schools like Boston University have Fine Arts Departments with photography programs.
In choosing your photography degree, think about the options that are available as described in this quote from the Purdue Arts Department web page:
"students who graduate from this [photography] program are prepared for advancement in a multitude of professions which include advertising, mass media, photojournalism, industrial and architectural photography, to name a few. We also anticipate that students will work with interactive multimedia and digital applications, as well as in the fields of photographic education and the fine arts."
