New Job Opportunities in the IT Sector
IT is no longer a new field for education and employment; to a great degree information technology defines today's methods of doing business for sales, for customer relations and customer tracking, for accounting and for various manufacturing and product development functions.
Because IT is so pervasive information and technology degrees continue to change, expand in number and create new areas of specialization. And because IT plays such a primary role in business functions, one of the new job opportunities in the field is the role of business continuity manager.
It's no longer enough to talk about the scalability of computer platforms and take a few courses in the subject. Today some of the computer networking degrees focus solely on business expansion functions. People in the field have to manage multilingual issues, install or create data systems that can also work in multilingual environments, and incorporate the concept of a twenty four hour workday for businesses with offices on several continents.
Business continuity also includes the role of disaster recovery manager. The loss of data today is tantamount to the destruction of the company warehouse. The two functions have been combined in some educational environments. Boston University offers an online degree in Business Continuity, Security & Risk Management that is newly spun off from the certification programs in these disciplines. It's a Master's of Science in Specialty Management - a title that's indicative of the way that IT and business educational programs are fragmenting as the intertwined fields become more complex.
Norwich University also recently introduced a Master's of Science in Business Continuity, also offered online. For both these schools the degree offerings are programs in the business school rather than from the technology field. Nevertheless applicants for work in the business continuity and disaster management field need extensive training in network design, management and information security.
Expect to see more degree development in these fields in the near future. The job market is there today; a quick online search will give you an idea of the career possibilities.
