Western Governors University Teams Up With Community Health Centers to Address Nursing Shortage

Western Governors University (WGU) is no stranger to the national nursing shortage: this year they have been working hard to make education more accessible to people online degree development. Now, they are teaming up with a heavy hitter to improve their reach even more.

According to Reuters, WGU has just announced a partnership with the National Association
of Community Health Centers (NACHC). The partnership, says the press release, has to do with WGU's "competency-based" bachelor-level nursing degree leading to RN licensing. The partnership would help to make more medical training opportunities available for students.

The program started at WGU's California locations last summer, and is on the verge of expanding into Texas. According to the release, it is to be the first nationwide, fully accredited, competency-based, online bachelor degree in nursing. It's just another day in the life of WGU, however: the school is dedicated to their work in bringing the nursing profession back to life. Jan Jones-Schenk, Director of the National Prelicensure Program, says: "WGU is committed to improving patient care by making quality nursing education accessible and affordable," also mentioning the school's masters degree program in nursing leadership as part of the school's efforts to get the field of nursing back on track.
