Journalism Diplomas

A diploma in journalism will provide students with the practical skills that will improve employment opportunities within this field.  Generally, this type of program will take one year or less to complete the required coursework. A diploma in journalism, while not a degree program, can enhance the student’s knowledge of specific topics such as travel, entertainment, politics, the environment, or a whole host of other current issues that are in the media spotlight.  The American College of Journalism offers a diploma program in professional freelance journalism to help jump start a writing career. The Penn Foster Career School also offers a freelance writer diploma course of study that is self-paced and can be completed at home.

A diploma in journalism may be a good choice for those looking to receive training in a specialized area of this field without having to enter a more intensive and expensive degree program. Some schools offer graduate level diplomas that will require the student to have already earned a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Research the education requirements for specific journalism field careers at our journalism career center page.

Any additional post-secondary education will be looked upon favorably by current and potential employers.  Many employers will give education bonuses for employees who complete coursework to earn a certificate or diploma. Salaries for those with a journalism diploma will vary widely depending on previous education and experience levels.
