Nursing Degree Program Accredited for American Sentinel University

American Sentinel is an accredited online institution that has traditionally offered degree programs and continuing education opportunities for professionals. On October 15th the school announced a newly bestowed accreditation status for its nursing degrees by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

“We are extremely proud that American Sentinel’s nursing degree programs have been recognized for meeting the national standards for accreditation,” said Catherine Gardner, DrPH, RN, FAAN, Dean of Health Professions at the university. “It confirms that our mix of competency-based learning, clinical applications, real-world relevance, and flexible format prepare students well for healthcare careers.”

ASU currently offers an RN to BSN program as well as an RN to MSN degree via distance learning. An important issue for the school and its prospective students with regard to accreditation has been the practice of nurse employers paying for educational upgrades. “In some cases, employers won’t reimburse or recognize a nursing degree without this accreditation, so our students benefit,” said Natalie Nixon, Director of
Admissions.

In addition to the bachelor’s and master’s programs for nurses who wish to advance to management ranks, American Sentinel has a complete program for RNs interested in moving into a nursing specialty. The Master of Science in Nursing offers four specialty areas: case management, nursing informatics, management and organizational leadership, and nursing education.
