Ohio Mother Receives “Project Working Mom” Scholarship to Ashworth College
Congratulations, Debora Jones: according to a recent press release, this working mother of two from Holland, Ohio, was named one of the lucky recipients of the “Project Working Mom” scholarship, earning her a full ride to online institution Ashworth College.
This is the third installment of the Project Working Mom scholarship program, and Mrs. Jones is one of twenty recipients who will be attending Ashworth College on scholarship. Helen MacDermott, the content director for the Project Working Mom program, isn’t just an advocate — she’s a working mom herself, also attending an online college. “Going back to school isn’t easy,” she acknowledges, “but without the right degree you may get passed over for a job or promotion. This campaign was designed to remove the barriers so people can go to school at their own time and pace and don’t have to worry about the costs. We’ve helped make dreams come true and it’s been an honor to be a part of these campaigns.”
Like many others, Mrs. Jones’ story is one of delayed opportunities and a desire to get more out of life. Between raising children, managing a career at the local bank, and growing up in a home where college was never prioritized, the odds of obtaining a degree were stacked high against her. What’s more, Jones and her husband used their finances toward education to give their children better opportunities, leaving them lacking the money to find college for themselves. Now, given the means to support a college education for herself, Jones is going back to school for an online medical billing degree, to build on her current financial skills and make herself more marketable in the growing health care sector.
