Military Distance Education

Getting an education can be difficult when half of your days are spent far away from home, and that's often a harsh reality for soldiers. Luckily, with the advent of distance learning and quality online degrees, it is becoming easier to be proactive about education instead of waiting until retirement former as barriers like a full-time job and even deployment have become virtually inconsequential.

An Education on Your Own Time

The military is a busy place-between duty shifts, daily assignments, and all the unexpected activity that can go on every day, it can be impossible to schedule in a single college class at a brick-and-mortar university, let alone a full course load. With an online education, however, you can study and complete courses on a timeline that works for you. Class starts whenever you have the time to pick up a book, and ends when you need it to, giving you the freedom to earn a degree without putting the rest of your life on hold.

Wherever You Are, Your Education is There

Military life goes hand in hand with travel-you're lucky if you stay at the same home base for more than a couple of years, to say nothing of months of deployment. How can you expect to work on your degree when you might be home one week and thousands of miles from campus the next? With distance learning, it doesn't matter. Virtual classrooms, e-books, and podcast lectures all make the entire world is your classroom, from the barracks to the desert to a ship out at sea.

With reasons like these, it's easy to see why more and more service members are turning to distance learning as a top education option. Why not check it out for yourself?

University of Phoenix

"I just finished my MBA in October 2009 with a 4.0 GPA. It was a lot of work much more so than the traditional classes I took during my undergraduate degree. I spent many long nights working on papers and posting responses to discussion questions etc. The instructors were like any other instructors I had in my undergrad classes....some were better or worse than others but nothing unexpected. I did have some difficulty with other students in my classes. I think the admissions requirements are a little weak and there are a lot of students in grad programs that shouldn't be there but the same could be said of any company. You will always have to pick up the slack for someone in your office. Overall the experience was ok. If I had it to do over knowing what I know now I can't say what I would do. I wanted to get started on my degree while I was still on active duty and was able to which was a plus. I chose the school because of the flexibility after weighing many other options. My only concern now is the reputation of the school and how my degree will be viewed by future employers."

Walden University

"I am close to completing my MBA at Walden University. I feel a great deal of the professors are experienced and well educated. However, it is frustrating to work with low academic achieving classmates who write on an eighth grade level. It also seems that many students receive A's even when their work is not of high academic quality. I would not recommend Walden University to professionals who want to achieve a higher level of learning. Walden is good for those who have average academic writing ability and seek to buy an MBA through mediocre work."
