Guide to Arizona Accounting Degree Programs

If you want to be an accountant, you should find a ton of different schooling options within the state of Arizona. First you can decide between studying through a classroom style degree or one that is offered entirely online. That is a matter of whether you learn better in class on a schedule or on the internet on your own terms. Assuming that you work better in the traditional form, you can earn a degree from College America, Everest College, Keller Graduate School, Argosy University, ITT Tech and much more. For your internet based options, you might want to go through DeVry University, American InterContinental University, or the University of Phoenix. Where you go is entirely based on how you want to learn.

Once you select a degree program you want to go into, you should gain a better understanding of what courses you may be taking. The core curriculum is the same across the board, so you’ll have to take classes like math, English, history and science. However, you have a freedom when it comes to your electives. You can formulate a minor from the courses you choose, or you can just explore some classes of interest. For the accounting courses specifically, you may take payroll accounting, business law, cost accounting, or auditing, among many other courses for the field.

Arizona Accounting Job Outlook and Salary

There is a great expansion in store for the accounting field, so you should have no issues gaining employment after graduation. There have been a lot of legislations passed over the last few years that have led businesses to seek better trained accountants for fear of auditing issues. These businesses now hold a greater financial responsibility if something goes wrong, to the point that the chief executive of the company is entirely liable for any financial reporting fraud that may occur.

Where you work in this field will likely determine how much money you earn. The government pays more than any other type of business, so if you can secure a job there, you should be in good shape. Within a government job, you can make upwards of $70,000 a year. If you choose to work as a self-employed accountant, then you may make anywhere from $30,000 a year to $50,000, depending on your location and skills. Upper level positions are usually awarded to people who have completed a master’s degree program, but there are exceptions. A good rule of thumb is to get a higher education though because it can only make things easier for you in the future.
