Guide to California Law and Justice Degree Programs

If you are looking for a state with a wide range of diversity, take a look at California. This third largest state by size hugs the Pacific coast. The state is home to over a hundred colleges and universities. Dozens of these institutions provide degrees in law and justice. No matter what level of degree a student wants, they can find some place to study. Many of the higher institutions of learning are nationally and internationally ranked. This makes the state attractive for degree seekers.

California would rank as the eighth largest economy if it were an independent country. It has a wide diversity in its economic strength. Many people automatically think of Hollywood and the movie industry. This is a large contributor, but not the largest. Agriculture plays a big part all over the state. High tech companies are clustered near Silicon Valley. Many moderate valleys have become famous for wind production. The state also has significant shares in aerospace manufacturing. Trade with Asia is a dominant force all over the port cities. Urban areas such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento dominate. But smaller cities and rural communities abound as well. Known as the Golden State, how can California make your dreams come true?

California Law and Justice Job Outlook and Salary

With such a large economy and diverse population, California offers a wide range of careers in the field of law and justice. The sheer magnitude of it makes it near impossible to give an overview of each one. To give an example of the state’s strengths, let’s use police officers as an example.  Starting salaries are generally from $50,000 to $52,000 per year. With a few years of experience, an officer can expect to make around $73,000. This runs significantly higher than the national median. However, this is offset by the higher cost of living in many parts of the state. Smaller towns and rural communities will usually offer lower wages but also have lower costs of living rates. Most urban areas involve high crime rates.

According to the California Employment Development Department, the state’s demand for law enforcement officers is expected to grow 18% in the next decade. This is higher than the expected national average of 11%. Most opportunities will be around the urban areas with the number of opportunities growing in larger areas. Growth will be seen in rural areas as well as long as population trends are growing.
