Electronics Repair Degrees
Electronics repair technicians are responsible for fixing everything from home appliances to handheld devices to industrial strength machines. Technically, electronics and electrical repair are slightly different, with the former relating to components and the latter relating to power supply. But in practice, the two fields have tremendous overlap, and thus, electronics repair technicians are often responsible with whatever troubleshooting is necessary.
Electronics Repair Training
Although no formal educational requirements exist for the field, an associates degree is the preferred qualification for many employers. Extensive experience in a repair shop might arm you with the necessary skills, but an actual diploma can help open many more doors. In addition, you might also need certification for the majority of electronics repair jobs out there. Again, this qualification is not necessarily mandatory, but it demonstrates your commitment to the field, thus, making you a more attractive employment prospect. Coursework and exam preparation cover areas such as engine design, circuitry, physics, safety, first aid, computer science, information technology, power tools, GPS technology, entertainment systems, automotive care, and home appliances. It also helps to have good eyesight, color perception, and manual dexterity.
Career Prospects in Electronics Repair
Competition for jobs is expected to be keen over the next decade with a slight decrease in job growth for the entire industry. This only highlights the importance of education and certification. While neither is compulsory, both can help you secure more job opportunities once you graduate. If an employer doesn't have to train you, he or she might be more likely to hire you.
