Accounting Schools in Iowa
Guide to Iowa Accounting Degree Programs
Iowa has a number of locations to get an accounting degree from, but all of them come from the same university. Kaplan University has six locations in the state that offer accounting degrees in some form or another. You can go to school in Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines or Mason City if you choose to attend that school. You also have the option to work online where you can get a degree entirely from your computer. This option is available through DeVry University, American InterContinental University and the University of Phoenix, and it has become increasingly popular over the years.
The courses that you take as an accounting major will mainly be related to the legislations and reporting techniques you will need to know in the field. You may take courses like business law, managerial accounting, leadership and business, and many more. There are a lot of introductory courses that you may encounter to get you acclimated with the degree program early on. You will have to go through the basics of math, English and history, just as you would in any other degree program. There are also electives you may take to develop minors through.
Iowa Accounting Job Outlook and Salary
There have recently been a lot of laws passed with regards to financial reporting fraud, and they have left businesses in a bit of a frenzy to find well qualified accountants to manage their money and reports. Currently the chief executive of a company is deemed the one personally responsible for any fraud that may surface, so the demand for accountants is on the rise. If you are well trained in your craft, you should have no issue finding employment after graduation. Some 226,000 jobs are expected to come about over the next few years, so there are lots of openings in store.
Your earnings as an accountant will likely be derived from your line of work. Contracted positions and those within the government usually pay up to $60,000 or $70,000 a year. Other places of employment might pay as little as $33,000 to start, but there are always chances for advancement. To seal one of the higher paying positions, you will need to get a master’s degree as many upper end employers seek higher education nowadays. For the most part, a bachelor’s degree will suffice for the field though. You choose your education according to your own goals in accounting.
