Maryland is a great state to live in, but it’s also a great place to study accounting. You can choose from a variety of degree programs available within the state, and all of them are plenty capable of preparing you for work in the field. You can opt for a traditional program from one of those schools, or you could think outside of the box and work totally online. No matter what you choose to go through, you will have to endure pretty much the same courses across the board. You will start with the core curriculum, like math, English, and history. After you complete that and some introductory accounting courses, you will move on to the electives of your choice and some courses that are more specific to the career. Those may include classes like business law, managerial accounting, federal taxation, financial statement analysis and the like.

Maryland Accounting Job Outlook and Salary

The job outlook for accounting is pretty solid as expansion should be imminent until at least 2016. There are a lot of laws out now that have put strict stipulations in place with regards to financial reporting. Any fraud that may be found will be considered the personal responsibility of the chief executive for the company. Thus there are a lot of businesses out there that are trying to get good accountants on their team to help monitor company finances and prepare the business for auditing. If you have a degree in hand, you should be all set for one of the many positions that will come available.

You can figure out what your earnings will be as an accountant by the type of job that you will go into. Working for the government will yield the highest pay with some people in the field making as much as $70,000 a year. Other positions pay between $33,000 and $50,000 a year. What you make will be derived from your degree level as certain positions require certain academic achievements. A master’s degree will help you secure those higher paying jobs, but a bachelor’s degree will be just fine otherwise.
