Guide to Massachusetts Cosmetology Programs

If you are interested in some sort of cosmetology program in the state of Massachusetts, you will need to look at either Spa Tech Institute or Jolie Hair and Beauty Academy, depending on what you want to go through after graduation. Spa Tech has three locations in the state, while the Jolie Academy only has one location in Ludlow. Your other option would be to get a certification online through an internet based program. Such a program can be found at the Minnesota School of Business, Lincoln College of Technology, or Globe University. In that situation, all of your training will be done virtually, with no hands on interaction around.

When you go through your cosmetology training, you will need to pick an area of focus. That area may be in several different subjects, like nail care, skin care, makeup, and others. Of course, you want to go into something that you have a passion for, but don’t shy away from engaging in more than one program. There are a lot of combination salons out there, and if you can work in more than one type of situation, your chances of gaining employment greatly improve. Most training programs last between nine months and two years, depending on what you want to do exactly.

Massachusetts Cosmetology Job Outlook and Salary

A lot of jobs are becoming available in this job in particular. That can be linked to a few different occurrences. For one, there is a growth in the population, and any time there is an expansion of people, there is an expansion of the services needed to accommodate them. Also people are more focused on outer appearances now than ever before, so you would be getting into a field with a lot of growth potential. Securing a job at an upscale salon may be difficult because of competition, but all the other types of jobs should be readily available.

You are going to be the main determining factor for your own earnings. The hourly rate that you have will have a starting level, but you also have to factor in tips and commission. The better customers you have, the more money you will make. If you fit in with the average for the nation, you should be able to see earnings of $10.25 an hour after tips, but that number is again influenced by your clientele. It is possible to make far more than that if you get a job in a higher end salon or if you have a good number customers.
