Current Job not Rubbing You Right? Try Massage Therapy School
Thousands of years ago, the Greek physician Hippocrates first documented the medical benefits of "friction." Today, massage therapists use this same principle to treat clients with problems ranging from tired and overworked muscles to sports injuries to stress. Massage therapists should have friendly personalities and good communication skills to build trusting relationships with clients and keep them coming back.
You can practice two major types of massage therapy: Massage that is meant to improve clients' physical health and massage that is simply meant to relax and rejuvenate clients. These typically require different techniques and different training. Massage therapists can also specialize in more than 80 different specific types of massage, known as modalities. These include deep tissue massage, sports massage, and Swedish massage among many others.
Massage Therapy School Offers the Hands-On Training You Need
Employment for massage therapists is growing faster than average, and job seekers with formal massage therapy training should have great job opportunities, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Massage therapy schools may be full time or part time and typically teach:
• Anatomy
• Physiology
• Kinesiology (the study of how the body moves)
• Business
• Ethics
Above all, massage therapy programs give you hands on practices of massage techniques. Some programs may also focus on a certain modality of massage. Massage therapy schools may also help you with post-graduate job placement, or offer continuing education. Massage therapy school graduates often choose to take the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Body Work, a nationally recognized credential.
Get your hands on an interesting, fast-growing career by enrolling in massage therapy school today.
