There is perhaps no career as exciting and rewarding as that of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). EMTs perform an invaluable service in the medical field. If someone requires immediate medical attention, and cannot get to a medical facilities, EMTs are dispatched to their location to attend to them and keep them in good shape until they can be seen by a doctor. This can involve anything from crime scenes to automobile accidents. Some EMTs are even trained to treat some minor injuries in lieu of a doctor.

To become an EMT, you will need to get some form of formal training. The highest level of EMT, EMT-Paramedic, requires a degree program that can often lead to an associate's degree. These degree and certificate programs are available in online form, which is particularly convenient for EMTs who need so much hands-on training.

Since jobs for the EMTs are expected to rise by 19% by 2016, faster than the average for all professions, this is definitely a good profession to into. And aside from being rewarding, it is also a financially sound decision: the Bureau of Labor Statistics states that the median income for EMTs is around $30,000.
