Guide to Nebraska Accounting Degree Programs

Have you ever thought about taking classes online? Well, what about getting a whole degree there? If you are interested in accounting, you could easily obtain a degree from a number of universities in the country, such as the University of Phoenix, DeVry University, and American InterContinental University. Through the web-based programs, you could actually get a degree right from home. However, some people learn better in a classroom setting. If you are one of those people, you might consider getting a degree in accounting from Kaplan University or ITT Tech within the state of Nebraska.

To get your degree, you are going to have to go through both basic and advanced level courses. Some of them may not seem to fit the career you are going into, but they are necessary to graduate. Being involved in courses like math and English is the only way that you can get to the more degree-specific classes that you want to take, such as managerial accounting, cost accounting, auditing, etc. Within your studies, you will be given a chance to pick electives. Those electives will provide the opportunity to form a minor or just expand your knowledge in areas that interest you.

Nebraska Accounting Job Outlook and Salary

When it’s all done and you have a degree in hand, you have to start looking for a job. Think about getting an internship while you are in school because that may be a good place to one day gain employment as well. You should see a lot of jobs available though as the demand for accountants is on the rise. Many new businesses are opening up as the economy expands. These places need skilled workers like you to come in and get the job done. Recent legislation passed about financial reporting fraud has led to an even greater need for quality accountants in the field.

After you get a job, you may see a starting pay of $33,000 on up. How high that number goes will be determined by where you work. For the biggest paying jobs, look to contract work or work for the U.S. government. There you may earn $60,000 or $70,000 a year, depending on the situation. Those upper level positions are always full of steep competition though, so you will at least need a master’s degree in hand in order to be considered. If your skills and passion fit the bill, you should be on your way to a solid salary.
