Your Guide to Nursing Schools
If you're looking for a career that promises high demand, rewarding work, opportunities to interact with other, and fairly lucrative salaries, you should turn your attention to nursing schools. That's because nurses enjoy a unique blend of benefits and perks that are hard to duplicate in most other professions. There is absolutely no doubt that they help others, but were you also aware that nursing job opportunities for nurses will actually grow much faster than the national average for most other occupations.
That's because hospitals are expanding rapidly in anticipation of the ever aging baby boomer generation. As they begin to retire in unprecedented numbers, hospitals will have to rely more heavily on graduates of nursing schools who possess the necessary skills and training to provide optimal healthcare to these aging patients.
Different Types of Nursing Schools
Although aging baby boomers will certainly help create demand for more nurses, there are actually many different types of nursing careers & degrees one can follow, some of which don't deal with the elderly of all. Neonatal nursing, for example, focuses solely on newborn infants. Forensic nursing deals more with medical malpractice suits and legal disputes. There are also nurses who work in naturopathic hospitals, clinics, and spas. So before selecting your nursing school, it's a good idea to clearly define what type of environment you want to work in. For although there is much overlap in the different types of training you receive, some schools will stress certain areas more than others.
Salaries after Nursing Schools
According to the US Department of Labor, the median nursing salary in 2004 was approximately $52,000. But as demand for more nurses continues to go up, you can expect this already impressive salary to rise accordingly.
