Guide to Oregon Accounting Degree Programs

The state of Oregon provides a variety of accounting degree programs that you can attend at any time. On top of the degrees offered within the borders of the state, you also get to expand a search to your online degree options, in which case you should be able to get a degree from your chosen college right on your computer. For your online program, think about places like DeVry University, the University of Phoenix or American InterContinental University. If a more traditional degree option sounds better for you, check out Pioneer Pacific College, Everest College, Heald College, ITT Tech, or any of the other schools within the state.

There are a lot of different courses that you may take on the way to becoming an accounting major. Some of the courses will fall along the lines of your core curriculum, like math and English. Then there are those which will actually pertain to your job once you get out of college. Those would be things like business law, cost accounting, personal finance, leadership and business, and others. You will also get the opportunity to pick out some elective courses which may allow you to formulate a minor, if you so desire.

Oregon Accounting Job Outlook and Salary

There is a great outlook for positions in the field of accounting. The fact is that even in a dour economy, there is still expansion. You can reap the rewards of that expansion as new businesses will call upon you to help them manage their finance department. After recent laws were passed, chief executives of companies are now held personally responsible for any fraud that may result from improper financial reporting. These businesses have cracked down now and enlisted the help of well educated people to keep them out of harm’s way. You could be just what they are looking for.

The amount of money that you earn as an accountant will be a derivative of the place you work in. The government offers the highest paying positions around, but some self employed accountants turn out to be quite successful. You should be able to see pay increases as you become more experienced in the field. Starting out, your hourly wage may be anywhere from $10 to $15, but through time that number could jump as high as $26 an hour. Bonuses are also available, and you could earn an extra $2,000 a year because of them.
