Guide to Oregon Culinary Arts Degree Programs

The main hub for culinary arts education within the state of Oregon can be found in Portland. There students may choose to attend Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America, Oregon Culinary Institute, or The Art Institutes. These schools offer in class training that provides a hands-on form of learning for students wishing to work with food. There are, however, online degree opportunities as well, so students can opt to get a degree from the comfort of their own homes.

You probably already know that you will have to take some basic courses to get a degree in much of anything. Those courses may be English, science or history, but they may also include a foreign language for some universities. Once you have gotten the core curriculum out of the way, you can move on to classes that pertain more to your actual study needs. You might learn how to organize and run a restaurant, or you may simply learn how to cook well. It all depends on the focus you have within the overall culinary field.

Oregon Culinary Arts Job Outlook and Salary

There are going to be a lot of jobs available once you get out of college. As you may have noticed, people seem to be a bit less frugal nowadays due to a rise in household incomes. You might be able to reap the benefits of this haphazard spending because people are also beginning to stray from their own kitchens in a mad fleet to the nearest and best restaurants. Take your skills where they need to be, and you could fill a high demand for chefs and restaurant managers in your area. The way it looks, you will be needed for quite some time.

You can earn a great deal of money working in culinary arts. It just depends on the position you uphold within a company. More taxing work will obviously lead to higher pay. You may also be paid based on how upscale the restaurant is that you work at or how long you have been with a company. For reference, a base salary may sit around $35,000 in this field, but there are a whole lot of people who make twice as much as that or more. You have to remain dedicated to your job and the food that you run. As long as you do that, you should have a great future in store.
