Guide to South Carolina Paralegal Degree Programs

If you like the legal system and want to get more involved, you might consider getting a degree or certification in paralegal work. To do this, you first have to select a school to attend. South Carolina has three to choose from, namely Brown Mackie College, and South University. South also offers a degree program that is entirely internet based and similar programs may be found at Kaplan University or Colorado Technical University Online. The internet is becoming a more popular option for students because of the growing dependency that we all have on it. These people work online, research online and socialize online. Getting an education just seems like the logical thing to do there.

One easy way to narrow down what school you want to go to is to determine the degree level you wish to achieve. If you want to get a bachelor’s degree, you are going to have to find a school that can accommodate that degree level. Many institutes only train at an associate’s level. If you need nothing more than a certificate, the same statement applies. Determine what your educational needs are and go from there.

South Carolina Paralegal Job Outlook and Salary

Within the state of South Carolina, you will find a very positive job outlook in store. Just like the rest of the country, South Carolina is seeing a downturn in the economy. While that may mean that less money is fluctuating around to pay employees, that is actually a good thing for paralegals. These people fill the needs of lawyers, and the more needs they can fill, the less lawyers will be required to keep a firm running. Employers are willing to open up more jobs for paralegals if they can lessen their staff of expensive employees. This yields more available positions for you after graduation.

The amount of money that you can earn as a paralegal will differ based upon the position you hold in a company, your time with that company, the location of that company, and the general wealth of the company. If you get lucky enough to work for the government, you will find that your income would be far greater than someone who works for an insurance carrier or a small law firm. Most people in this field make between $36,000 and $60,000 a year, depending on the aforementioned factors. Some people make as much as $75,000 a year, and there are bonuses available at every job level.
