Guide to South Dakota Cosmetology Programs

South Dakota is the home of Globe University, a thriving school that has one of the few web-based programs available for cosmetology. Through this university, you can choose to either complete your courses over the internet or you could go to the school located in Sioux Falls. The internet option is becoming a popular one because you don’t have to attend a classroom at all to get an education. You can get all of the training you would need right from your home computer. In addition to Globe University, you could also choose to go to a program through a place like the Minnesota School of Business and Lincoln College of Technology.

The training programs for people in this field only last for a year, and some of them only take nine months to complete. Getting an associate’s degree will require two years of education, but everything else is mild in comparison. Your training will be focuses around a certain area of cosmetology, such as nail care or skin care. Though you may not be an “expert” when you get done, you will know enough to get you started in the work force. After that, you can obtain a license and start training under your chosen employer.

South Dakota Cosmetology Job Outlook and Salary

The jobs for cosmetology are expanding every day. More people are starting to focus on their outer appearances, and that is impacting the amount of cosmetologists needed to accommodate general vanity. This is coming from the same reason that the plastic surgery industry is expanding. People are looking for perfection, and it is your job to get them as lose to that as possible. The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics says that growth in this field will be higher than the average growth in all jobs in the nation.

There is really no maximum pay that you may see in the field of cosmetology, though the minimum may sit at minimum wage. There is a great chance for high earnings though because you will get to keep your tips. That plus commission could very well double your salary. On average, you can expect to see $10.25 an hour after tips and commission, but again, that is not a stagnant number. Only you and the clients you charm will be able to determine how much money you make. Try to establish good bonds early on so you can get some frequent customers under your belt.
