Guide to Tennessee Accounting Degree Programs

Whether you call Tennessee your home or you just consider it to be a good place to learn in, you might find the many accounting degree opportunities available in the state to be quite appealing. Such opportunities can be found in several institutes, including National College, ITT Tech, Strayer College, Remington College, and many more. You will be trained by a faculty of people who are certified in their respective fields. You can receive the same education, however, even if you just go through an online degree program. You can find that available through DeVry University, American InterContinental University, or the University of Phoenix.

When going through your degree program, you will have certain courses to take by choice and by requirement. The “fun” classes will come in the form of your electives, as you will be given the chance to pick just about anything you want to take. Many people use this opportunity to form a minor, but you could just take it as a chance to get away from accounting for a bit. As for the required courses, those will be a little more career specific. Classes like managerial accounting, federal taxation, personal finance and cost accounting will all come across your schedule at one point or another. Completing them will lead to your degree.

Tennessee Accounting Job Outlook and Salary

After you get your degree in accounting, it will be time to start looking for a job. There will be a lot of opportunities available because the field is growing rapidly. Between the years 2006 and 2016, the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics has estimated an 18% growth in accounting jobs throughout the nation. This is higher than the growth that may be expected for all jobs. After graduation, you should have no problem securing a position because there will be a lot of them available to you. Some just may be more competitive than others, but those are often the most rewarding.

Where you work is entirely up to your own passions, but you need to note that your place of employment will be a big factor in your earnings overall. You may make $33,000 to $45,000 starting off in the field, but the maximum earning potential that you may have in certain jobs will be limited. The government provides the best chance for high earnings with some people making as much as $70,000 a year in those types of positions.
