Guide to Tennessee Cosmetology Programs

If you want to go through some type of cosmetology program in the state of Tennessee, you have a few options available to you. Since your education will be a prime factor in your overall success, it is a wise idea to weigh out different schools before making a final decision. If your best learning environment is in the hands-on world of the classroom, you might want to consider one of the programs offered at Miller-Mote Technical College, Regency Beauty Institute, or Vatterott College. If, however, you work best on your own, you might want to consider going through an online degree program offered by the Minnesota School of Business, Lincoln College of Technology, or Globe University.

To get trained as a cosmetologist, you will need to go through a program that will either last nine months or two years. The nine month version may not be as in depth as the associate’s degree program, but nevertheless it should suffice for employment. During those nine to twenty four months, you will learn the specifics about your chosen sector of cosmetology. After that, you should be able to get a license that permits you to seek employment. The new company that you work for will provide additional training for one or two weeks, but then you will be ready to work.

Tennessee Cosmetology Job Outlook and Salary

Within the state of Tennessee, you will find a growing number of jobs available within the field of cosmetology. That can be attributed mainly to an increase in the population. If there are more people out there that need haircuts, manicures and the like, there will be a greater need for people in cosmetology. It’s only logical. When you go looking for a job, you may notice that the only competition that comes into play will be at upscale salons. That is because of the higher pay rates and richer clients. Securing such a position will be of great advantage to you.

The higher end pay rates may be around $18 to $20 an hour, but some people earn even more than that. It’s all a matter of how much people tip you. The base pay for salon workers is relatively standard, but the tips earned vary greatly from person to person. If people like you and your work, they will tip you more money. Being a charmer will turn you into a better money maker overall. Try to show off your personality in the best light.
