Having a flair for cooking or making creative pastries might be a sign that you are suited for a career in the culinary arts. When you do decide to go to one of these colleges to get either a certificate or a degree in your chosen field of culinary arts, you will need to also fulfill the basic needs that most certificate and degree programs require of you. These of course would be English, math, history and science. Once those courses are settled upon, you will be able to go into the actual classes that pertain to your field of focus, be it pastries, traditional cooking, or management.

Texas Culinary Arts Job Outlook and Salary


The outlook for those who are going into the culinary arts is very good, and the demand for skilled chefs and those who wish to manage is increasing every year. More and more people are turning to dining out because they simply do not have the time to devote to cooking any longer. The need for chefs to feed these people is on the rise. Competition has emerged in upper level positions as more people apply for executive chef positions every year. Though there are many available, it may be a fight to get a hold of one.

There are a lot of variables that may determine how much money you earn with a culinary arts degree. The average income that a chef currently makes is about $31,000 to $35,000 a year, just as a starting pay. There have been reported salaries at the higher end of the scale, like $66,000 for an executive chef position. Someone who acts as a food and beverage director could make upwards of $70,000 or more a year. Get a degree that you are satisfied with, but bee leery of the fact that higher pay only comes with a higher position.
