K12 Inc. Goes Public With Online Education for Children
We're a couple of days behind on this one, but it's pretty relevant news so let's proceed: K12 Inc has just been qualified to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and started trading under the ticket symbol LRN last week.
The Herndon-based company, which provides online curriculum to teachers and students in schools and at home, was previously listed on NYSE's Arca exchance, an all-electronic exchange for equities trading.
K12 is quite interesting, in that they are on the forefront of a new trend in online education: online primary and high schools. A satisfying halfway point between the school system and homeschooling, this tool is invaluable for children trying to get an education while overseas or subject to frequent travel. Will online K12s be the next big thing of the future? Only time will tell, but with such education programs going public, it looks like they won't be going away anytime soon!
