Kaplan University Announces Five New Degree Options
Kaplan University has announced the launch of five new specializations for programs in the teaching and business job sectors. The goal with the introduction of these options is to create relevant job training for a job market that remains tight for many people with traditional training.
The new online master's in management specialization in human resources is designed to allow students to analyze organizational development and employee behavior within the workplace. Recent economic data suggests that productivity for the overall economy is improving even while job losses continue. Analysts read this apparent contradiction as evidence that employers are accomplishing more with a diminished workforce. A degree that focuses on personnel management and productivity fits with this recent development, should it become a trend.
Currently the MSM degree, designed for management in a global marketplace, also offers specializations in change leadership, health care management, project management, and supply chain management and logistics.
There are three new degree offerings in that specialize in project management. Kaplan views this field as a growing specialization in two of its largest education divisions. Two of the new offerings are information technology degrees, with focus on project management. At the master's degree level the IT options now include the new specialization along with the current options, which include a business focus and specialization in information security.
The bachelor's degree in IT management currently offers areas of focus in database administration, application development, network administration along with several other IT specialties. Project management will add an additional choice that will provide the skills for job oversight in IT installations, upgrades and mergers.
Kaplan's business school will add project management as a specialization within their bachelor's degree in business administration program. The University sees this addition as emphasizing the planning, executing and controlling phases of a project life cycle. Already this degree has areas of focus that include nearly twenty options, among them human resources and marketing.
The fifth addition is a master's degree in education with specialization in online college teaching. Online education is on a steep growth curve and many of the schools who are experiencing expansion are having difficulty finding qualified instructors. This degree will emphasize adult learning theory, distance learning technologies and teaching strategies, characteristics of online learners, and assessing student progress in the online environment.
