Loyola University Offers Twitter Seminar
It's no secret by now, but Twitter has sort of been taking the entire world by storm lately. Using no more than 140 characters per post, the popular microblog network has proved itself a key player in the media world, from affecting weekend box office numbers to effectively documenting a revolution in progress. Big businesses have taken notice of the application's power to an overwhelming degree, with some companies like Best Buy even demanding proof of tech savviness from their employees -- in the form of blogging experience and a heavy Twitter following.
So, what's a tech novice to do these days? In so many words: learn fast. Luckily, some learning establishments are willing to help. On Saturday, July 18th, Loyola University is stepping up to the plate with Twitter Day New Orleans, offering a free public seminar on the ins and outs of "Twitter 101." True to the medium, it is scheduled to be fast-paced -- from 11am to 1pm -- and is "open to anyone who wants to learn how to use the social media tool Twitter in personal life or business."
For this event, the university is pairing up with other community institutions who assert that the seminar could not come at a better time. According to partnering news station WDSU, "With hurricane season in full swing, Twitter can be a powerful tool for getting information." As such, the seminar will also feature a special presentation from the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness on how to "stay connected in a crisis."
