Wilkes University Unveils New Masters Degree in Online Teaching
As we are seeing time and time again, the landscape of learning is rapidly changing. Not only are our methods for learning changing, but our methods of teaching must also change to reflect the shifting world of education. One major change has been, of course, the recent rise of distance learning, and Wilkes University is gearing up to launch a new degree designed specifically to deal with education's new needs: an online Masters program that teaches online teaching.
The program, which launches this summer, is for educators and other professionals who wish to use technology for training and instruction over the Internet. Courses will teach the latest technology and best practices for providing effective online instruction, whether in the private or public sectors of academia, the corporate world, or government. Wilkes will offer the program in partnership with Performance Learning Systems, an educational services company with whom the university has offered graduate education courses for 25 years.
Dean Michael Speziale explains that this kind of thoroughly modern education teaching degree is in major demand, and that the program will turn teachers into technology experts with the skills needed to develop successful online learners of their own.
