I recently finished a program at Kaplan College and I would not recommend this institution. I had requested information on one of their programs and then received telemarketer-like calls from one of their "advisors" to set up a meeting to speak with them. The advisor that I spoke with, while kind, was pushy and during our initial conversation I agreed to sign up for an on-campus meeting. During my meeting I felt pressured into signing up for this program (maybe the advisors are paid commission this would be my guess for their strong sense of urgency). In any case they are good at their jobs and other Kaplan students that I have spoken with say the same thing; they set up a meeting with an advisor, they signed up for a program that same day, and regretted signing up later on. I had attended a large university prior to attending Kaplan so I was surprised at the curriculum, it was unorganized (at least in the program that I was in) and my instructor was a great person, but unqualified to teach this program. I often had several answers marked wrong on my exams but were actually correct and verbatim out of the textbook. I had to go through exams to highlight and prove that several answers marked wrong were indeed correct. My instructor blamed this on the incompetency of the curriculum, and when I asked administration they gave me the same response. I would not have expected this from a program in which the tuition is 7 times the cost of that same program at a local community college (about $14,000 at Kaplan, this is not a typo). Also the program at the local community college is accredited and the program at Kaplan, when I was there, was still petitioning for accreditation.
My purpose in writing this review is to hopefully educate others who are looking to potentially attend Kaplan College or a school like Kaplan (for profit schools) that, in my opinion, takes advantage of those who are ill-informed. They have skilled sales consultants who answer your requests for information and they call themselves "advisors" they may be knowledgeable and kind, but remember that they are simply doing their job. Do research for yourself and check out all options available to you either through a traditional university or a community college both options if you are an in-state student, are probably much less expensive than Kaplan and both probably offer several online or accelerated evening programs for convenience. Once you know your options, weigh out the pros and cons and if you do decide to meet w/ a Kaplan advisor, request time to think about signing up for a program so you can do the comparisons for yourself. Education is invaluable but always make sure you are advocating for yourself. -

I've also had a great experience with Kaplan so far, everyone has been extremely friendly and helpful! You have to work very hard in your classes, but it's worth it for a diploma from an accredited and well known institution! It's pricey, but for a private school they're very good with getting you all the financial aid they can.
