  The environment of the WIU Interactive Online Program is in one word, AWESOME! I have been an on-ground student for 2 years and have never taken the online classes until this semester. Partly because of the increase in tuition associated with the online program. Tuition at WIU in general is very expensive; roughly $1100-$1200 per class after purchasing the book. The online program adds another couple hundred dollars to that baseline price. The online program is just like sitting in a virtual classroom with chat and voice capability. The instructors or professors will display the powerpoint via the interface. There are buttons to applaude a classmate for their statements, also to raise your hand to speak to the class and a lot more I haven't figured out yet. Overall, the class is just like being in a real class. If you miss the interactive online class, ALL the classes are recorded so you can still view what happened and view the instruction. Instructors have their methods of making up classroom participation for missing interactive classes by having the individual write a 1-2 page synopsis or outline of the class with the students comments or answers to the questions asked in the lecture. Great school if you can afford it. Again it is very expensive.
