Respiratory Therapy Schools

Your online resource for Respiratory Therapy Schools and Career Information. Respiratory therapy schools offer education for professionals who work in specialized areas helping patients with cardiopulmonary and respiratory disorders and diseases. They are specially trained to recognize and treat these conditions, and they work closely with doctors to determine the proper patient care plans and medical procedures that are performed. Currently, hospitals account for the majority of jobs in this particular discipline, but other facilities will soon outnumber hospital jobs. Associate's degrees are the minimum education required for respiratory therapy, so the education will be at least 2 years. Many students choose to pursue the bachelor's or master's degree programs, which can add another 2-4 years to the education beyond the associate level. Every state except for Alaska and Hawaii requires this professional to be licensed. The training offered includes education in anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, pharmacology, and microbiology. These are going to be basic courses, and anyone who pursues a higher degree should expect to take more courses and more in-depth courses. The licensing process requires NBRC compliance (National Board for Respiratory Care) and passing an exam.
